The Christmas Letter for 2008 - the one I never sent!

December 2008

Hello Everyone!

It has been many years since we have sent out Christmas Letters or even Christmas Cards. You may have wondered what became of us. Are we still on planet Earth, or were we abducted by aliens never to be found again. Though alien abductions may have been preferred to some of the life adventures sent our way. I think what actually happened is that we were sucked into a black hole filled with demons and slippery slopes. It was very difficult to find our way out.
Got your attention yet? Okay, maybe I stretched the truth a bit. We weren’t sucked into a black hole filled with demons and slippery slopes. The hole was actually closer to a mossy green mixed with a twist of sunshine yellow. Either way life has been an adventure!!!
Actually we are doing well. In July of 2007 we decided to yank our roots out of Orem and relocate. We now live in Saratoga Springs, Utah. It is directly west of our former home on the other side of Utah Lake.
Getting out of our house was quite the challenge. Suffice it to say that those working at the landfill were not in danger of a workforce reduction as long as we were at work. After many long hours and thanks to the help especially of Grandma and Grandpa Merrill, we left a home that was in considerably better shape than it had been in years. If it wasn’t for the intense need for a change in scenery I “almost” could have lived there. The help of my parents was priceless. Without their help I do not think we could have accomplished what we did.
The economic waves added interesting twists to our year of moving. We were lucky enough to sell our home and should have closed on the sale in early December. We didn’t end up closing until mid-February. Our new home which should have been finished towards the end of the year was not complete until spring. (Everyone tried to tell me that would happen with the new home, but true to form I refused to believe it. Of course our builder would keep their word, right? Turns out it was good they “were delayed”).
We were completely out of our home in Orem by the first of December, and moved into our new home the first week of April. During the gap we lived in Grandma and Grandpa Jensen’s basement. We were very grateful they took us in. The living area was much smaller than what we were leaving behind. But we were quite comfortable and enjoyed our time there. It was especially fun to see the kids get to know their grandparents in a way they had not been able to before. We all grew closer from our time there. I am very grateful we were given this gift.
We couldn’t be happier with our new home. We have a beautiful view and a home that I only dreamt of having in the past.
The added element of nature so close to us has been a real treat. We have plenty of pictures of Utah Lake we will gladly show if you even hint at showing interest. From the wildlife, to the trails to the mountain on our doorstep; we could not have designed a place that fits us better. The Lord has blessed us immensely.
The children are adapting well. They not only enjoy having their own space, but are finding their own place in their new world.
Justin, our oldest is now 18. He has been on a path of discovery, learning about life who he is and what he wants to become. Currently he holds 2 part time jobs. He has worked the past few years as a busser at “McGrath’s Fish House” in Orem. Recently he has been working as a part time seasonal worker in the bindery at Rocky Mountain Printing. Though loving the food at McGrath’s he cannot say the same about his job. He seems to be enjoying his work at RMP.
Justin’s passion is to conquer the game “Final Fantasy”. They tell me he could sell his gamer score for a healthy price on ebay. Someday I might take a minute and see how accurate that prediction is. J Truth is Justin would be quite good as a game tester. If anyone knows how to become one let me know.

Brandon is a junior attending Lehi High School. He likes the new school, despite the fact that it is extremely overcrowded. He has made some good friends that are fun to have around. If all goes well, he will have his driver’s license soon. Something he would have had last year, but did not understand until a little too late that attending class was a requirement for passing. J
Since moving here he has finally been able to start learning the guitar. This has been something he has wanted for a very long time and he is doing quite well. He seems to have a natural ability he gladly embraces. We have been blessed to have an excellent teacher right in our neighborhood that both he and Travis have been taking lessons from.

Travis is a Freshman attending Rockwell Charter High School in Eagle Mountain. It seems to be just the place for him. He has made several good friends.
At Rockwell he is taking “group guitar” learning the acoustic guitar from the same teacher he takes private lessons from learning the Bass Guitar. He too seems to have a talent that is fun to see him develop. You may guess that our home is often filled with music.
Like Justin, Travis also has a love for video games. His favorites are Guitar Hero and Call of Duty. Though there are several others he enjoys as well. I don’t think my former skills on “Space Invaders” would impress him much!

Then we come to our youngest, Kierstin. She is 11 years old and is in 5th grade. She is a good student and makes friends easily. She is full of personality and not one to contain it. Add to that a need to constantly create and you have Kierstin. Among her favorite things are cooking, singing and any form of craft she can get her hands on. She is a very busy girl!
This past year we have put her in singing lessons. She absolutely loves them! She also has taken a 2 week acting class at the Hale Center Theater. Something else she really liked.
Whatever it is she does, she keeps us entertained!

Brett and I are alive and kicking! We both work at Rocky Mountain Printing in Orem, Utah. Our lives are very full as you might guess. Keeping up is a constant challenge we often feel we are failing at. But we love it none-the-less. We love nothing more than spending time with each other and with our children. We are proud of who they are and who they are becoming.
We like all are concerned about the wave of uncertainty regarding the future. But our trust is in the Lord. We know he will guide us and help us as we continue our life journey.
We are grateful for the celebration of Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is hard to fully express the gratitude and love and we have for Him.

We want to wish you a Merry Christmas!
Love,
The Rosier’s
(Brett, Sandy, Justin, Brandon, Travis & Kierstin)
